Gel Candles |
Equipment Tips for Gel CandlesBecause the melt point of gel is much higher than paraffin wax and the pouring temperature is higher still your double boiler system will not be adequate and you will have to use direct heat. Either a pan on your direct heat source or an electrical pot with built in temperature control. |
The melting point of gel is approximately 180F and the pouring temperature between 200 and 220F.
It’s also important to know the flash point of the gels you will be using which are as follows: low density 258F, medium density 275F and high density 281F.
With all these different temperatures to be aware of and to monitor closely whilst your gel is melting, I cannot over emphasize the importance of your thermometer as an essential part of your candle making equipment.
